Manager, Communications

New York, NY

The Communications Manager will support NBC News’ communication and media relations needs, including its editorial and flagship show teams, as well as its robust digital and streaming apparatus. This position reports to SVP, Communications, NBC News.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage and execute communications strategies across NBC News brands on TV, digital and streaming
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships and contacts with media, television, business, tech and trade journalists
  • Promote editorial content and storytelling
  • Proactively place stories around the company’s growing brands
  • Identify speaking opportunities and panels for executives and talent
  • Provide PR support during breaking news situations and massive news events
  • Collaborate and partner with colleagues across the different division teams
  • Generate press releases, talent executive bios, talking points, pitch letters, social copy and other communications materials.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining all team communications materials.


Qualifications

  • Experience in tech, news and television preferred
  • A team player with experience working across different teams and leaders
  • Ability to multi-task and meet numerous deadlines and identify press opportunities
  • Strong media contacts; successful track record in placing stories
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Exemplary organization and time management skills
  • Established ability to think creatively and develop outside of the box solutions
  • Experience with talent relations
  • Passion for news and the media industry


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years relevant media relations and communications experience, preferably in media and/or tech
  • Excellent news judgement and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, or equivalent
  • Ability to work cross functionally across multiple teams, juggling several deadlines and projects
  • Exemplary organization and time management skills
  • Willingness to travel and work after hours and on weekends when necessary

This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
