We’ve Got Your Back… Literally |
A crash course on ergonomics 🪑
If you have a desk job or spend copious amounts of time on your laptop, you’re probably already familiar. But in case you’re not acquainted with the official meaning, ergonomics is the science of designing and arranging your workspace so you’re efficient, comfortable, and safe—yes, safe! Think of these tips like steel-toe boots or a hard hat for laptop tippy tapping. 👷♀️ Why is it important?
It’s all about preservation and prevention. Sitting hunched over your laptop doesn’t feel good after an eight-hour workday and it won’t feel great when you’re 80. “Poor posture and non-ergonomic setups can lead to musculoskeletal disorders like back pain, neck strain, and carpal tunnel syndrome,” says Bergeron. “A workspace designed for ergonomic health can prevent these issues, improving energy levels, and enhancing productivity.” Luckily, the solution is simple And it begins with your work setup. Here’s what the expert recommends!
🖥️ Use a standing desk to alternate between sitting and standing throughout the day. This will help reduce back pain and fatigue.
👀 Position your monitor at eye level using a monitor arm or desk shelf to prevent neck strain and slouching.
🪑Choose an ergonomic chair with lumbar support and adjustability to maintain proper posture and keep your feet flat on the ground. Plus extra tips, if you’re super keen 🤓
Incorporating regular stretches and movement—in addition to a proper setup—is essential to countering any pain. Bergeon suggests simple stretches like shoulder rolls, spinal twists, and wrist stretches help relieve tension. Additionally, you should also be using a laptop stand to raise your screen so it’s at eye level (this prevents neck strain), incorporate an external keyboard and mouse (to prevent wrist strain), and practice sitting with your back straight and shoulders back.
And the most important tip of them all? “Take regular breaks,” says Bergeon. “Even with a top-notch ergonomic setup, sitting or standing continuously can be detrimental to your health and it's crucial to move around and stretch every hour.” Yep, you don’t have to tell us that twice! BRB, gonna go stretch our legs. 💨 |

Now Entering: Your California Sober Era 🌿 |
Everyone’s relationship with alcohol is personal. Maybe you’re ready to give it up entirely after one too many three-day wine hangovers. Or it’s your first Sober October and you’re excited (and a little nervous) about navigating this new lifestyle. Or you’re thinking about swapping your nightly glass of Riesling for an alcohol-free alternative.
Whatever your reason for putting down the booze, might we suggest the California Sober lifestyle instead? Swapping wine for weed—more specifically, Cornbread Hemp’s THC Gummies, made from 100% legal hemp—can offer a host of benefits.
✨ These gummies are USDA-certified (the first in the US!) and don’t contain any artificial ingredients or synthetics. They’re also vegan! ✨ Each gummy has one part THC and one part CBD, for the perfect blend of calm, comfort, and confidence, which makes it great for socializing or getting through a creative project.
✨ You won’t be “couch-locked” (too lazy and tired to function, as some people feel when they smoke weed) or deal with a hangover the next day. ✨ If you’re new to edibles, start with half (5 mg) for a gentle yet effective experience that’ll take the edge off and elevate your night out. Can your glass of Riesling do that? |

Mika Relaxed Straight Jeans, Dynamite, $70 |
|
“Sitting down at your desk for eight hours wearing jeans sounds like a modern corporate torture tactic. As a full-time WFH girlie, you wouldn’t catch me wearing 👖 from Monday to Friday (leggings and flowy linen pants, FTW)—until I bought these relaxed-fit, mid-rise, straight-leg jeans from Dynamite. I’m wearing them as I type this, and there’s no digging into my stomach or tightness around my waist. It has the perfect ‘borrowed from the boys’ slouchiness that’s just begging to be paired with sneakers and an oversized blazer. I only picked up the medium wash, but after perusing the website, I noticed it also comes in brown, cream, black, and two lighter washes—plus other pairs with pearls, statement seams, a stylish slit, and fringe trim.” — Victoria
